Dear Members,
It has been almost a year since you have heard from the Jamaica Computer Society (JCS) leadership. This past year has been one of the most challenging in the history of the organization. We, along with the rest of the country and the world have had to mitigate several events and challenges affecting our personal and professional lives, while we carefully considered the current and future activities of the JCS. Despite these challenges, we have used the time to reflect, analyze and discuss how to “reshape” and implement a better and more effective organization. The result of these activities have yielded a new Council of Management, committed and focused on strengthening and advancing the aims and objectives of the society. The feedback and recommendations we have received from you and other interested parties have been invaluable. We have begun the work, and with your continued involvement and support we will be successful.
Through strengthened partnership with government, corporate and community organizations, services such as an expanded and more exciting “Member Benefits Package” will be available. More monthly activities and effective communication channels will be implemented, and we’re happy to inform you that in 2003 the JCS will be hosting our premier event the “JCS Information Technology and Management Showcase 2003”. The showcase is not just a rebranding of our annual conference, but rather it represent a significant shift in the how we respond to the needs of our membership and marketplace. We have developed a program with more educational topics, sessions, and tutorials - some geared towards professional certification. The exhibits will be first class and you will be able to conduct hands-on test drives of the latest technologies, attend panel discussions, presentations, and interact directly with industry experts. The Conference Committee has been meeting for the past two months and additional Showcase details and information will be announced in the near future – Stay Tuned!
Our first membership General Meeting for 2003 will be held 5:30 p.m. on June 24 at the PCJ auditorium, 36 Trafalgar Rd, Kingston 10. The main agenda topics are:-
Professor Gordon Shirley of the Mona School of Business will be the keynote speaker and moderator. Please contact the JCS Secretariat at (876) 929-5307 for additional information.
In closing, let me be the first to welcome you back to the new JCS. I am truly excited about the changes we have implemented and look forward to meeting you personally in the near future. Thank you in advance for your support and please feel free to contact me or other council members at (876) 929-5307.
Sincerely yours,
President
